Pale Orchid By Anne Mather
Warning this review contains spoilers.
Laura receives a distressing phone call from her younger sister, who is threatening to take her own life. Laura in the knick of time manages to get a flight over to the states, and rescue her sister.
On her sister waking up, she confesses to Laura that she needs her help as she is pregnant, and she hasn't heard from them in weeks. Laura is shocked to discover that she knows this man, as he is her exe's brother in law.
Laura feels that she has no choice but to track down her ex, for him to help her sister. It's the last thing she wants to do but her sisters mental health comes first.
When she finally locates Jason, he believes she has finally come home to him. When he discovers she hasn't, he gives her the ultimate ultimatum, he will help her pregnant sister, but Laura has to come and live with him.
Laura agrees and what follows is a sister who becomes more and more ungrateful towards Laura. Pamela actually decides she might try and ensnare Jason for herself. But in doing so she creates jealously in Laura, who starts to question the way she feels about Jason.
When Jason leaves for a business trip for a few days, this turns into a few weeks. Laura misses him more than she would care to admit. The arrival of Lucy, Jason's daughter, makes Laura very happy, but also reveals some unhappy secrets.
When Jason arrives back on the Island a Passionate morning ensues. Before Laura leaves him again, high and dry.
Fast forward a few weeks and Laura discovers she is pregnant, she's also miserable. But this is nothing compared to how Jason feels. He's locked up in a room with a few bottles.
In steps Jason's sister with some wise words and support. And Laura's off to rescue her man.
I really liked the characters flaws and depths. The story had a great plot and flowed. You can just tell this book was wrote in the 80s as a lot of things the male character says and does wouldn't be acceptable now.
